New Silverstone Arena GP Circuit

Whilst a dozen of our guys were gallivanting around France and Spain for the Moto GP, five of us had a crack at the new Arena GP circuit at Silverstone, it was bloody awesome, I know that several of you have ridden the old circuit, but things have changed so much, most of what was firmly implanted in your mind has now gone out the window. The new layout consists of ten right handers and eight lefts, the only parts that have not changed much is coppice, although the approach to the start and finish straight is much much faster now with a need to get on the brakes a little sooner. The Esses remain the same except for the usually fast exist which has been slowed down by the introduction of a fairly tight chicane to slow down the approach to hangar straight, although we feel that this might have been introduced just for the day that we attended because we used the new Stowe paddock as entry and exit onto the track. Stowe remains the same, as does the next left and right handers although the kerbs have been moved back considerably. From here on everything has changed with high and low speed corners and another fast straight at the back of the circuit. It takes a few sessions to get your head around all the new changes but the experience is well worth it. Martin, Matt, Andrew, Alan and myself had  a cold but brilliant day out. Can’t wait to have another crack at this one I feel its a circuit that you will keep wanting to return too. Having said that, I reckon there is one poor guy who left the circuit that day with unpleasant memories of Silverstone, after about the second morning session he felt the need to use on of the temporary porta-loos, but unfortunately his bike keys fell out of his leathers and went straight down the toilet, the very design of these things makes it impossible to retrieve anything from the top, ony the firm that installs them can gain access to the tank, and of course, they were not in attendance on that day so the poor guy had to miss out on the rest of the day.

NCMCC Annual Wales Camping Trip, and Pembrey Track day 17th - 20th June

This years camping trip will see a return to Tanylan Farm Holidays, which is situated Nr Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, West Wales. This is close to many places of interest and only a couple of miles from Pembrey race circuit. There is also a well lit footpath that links the campsite to a huge leisure centre with indoor heated swimming pool, bars and restaurant. So plenty to do for the kids if you decide to bring them along. We have posted this event early in case you have to book time off work. The track day is on the Saturday and will be run by Phil Bevan Trackdays the cost of the track day is £99 you can book your place online or by ringing Phil on 07885 453191 and paying by card.

As with other years, George will take all your camping equipment up by van, so all you need to bother about is you and your bike. If you do not have a tent, give George a ring on 01840 770300 and he will show on a spare for you. If you are taking part on the trackday, there is a strict noise limit of 105db so if you are running a race can make sure you have a baffle for it or take your standard road silencer, be a shame if you paid your entry fee, travelled all that way, and was refused entry to the track. It is vital that George has some idea of numbers for the camping weekend, as he has to send a non-returnable deposit to the campsite, so could you please give George a ring as soon as you can to confirm.

PLEASE have all your camping gear to George by Wednesday 16th, there will be no last minute loading.

The site address is: Tanylan Farm Holidays, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, West Wales, SA17 5HJ. Take the junction 48 off the M4 and follow signs for Pembrey County Park. At Pembrey follow the A484 to Kidwelly, turn at the spar shop in Kidwelly and after 400yrds turn left on to the costal road, continue for 2 miles and you will find Tanylan Farm Holidays on the right. Have a safe trip. PS Don’t bother with kettles & stoves, we have plenty of that kind of crap.

Help for Hero’s

Plymouth Bike Night will be holding a monthly motorcycle gathering on the Hoe Promenade on the First Thursday of each month from April through to October from 6pm onwards in support of Help for Hero’s. As well as the large number of motorcycles, there will be trade stands, catering and everything of interest to motorcyclists. This should work well with our regular Thursday evening runs when we kick them off so we will include a few trips to Plymouth to support this worthy cause. Take a look at their website www.plymouthbikenight.org.uk Plymouth Bike Night is also on Facebook
